Heart’s Journey, by Nina Serrano, wins Book Award

Estuary Press is pleased to announce that Nina Serrano is to receive an Artist Embassy International Book Award for her 2013 book of poems Heart’s Journey, Selected Poems 1980-1999, published by Estuary Press. The award will be presented at The Dancing Poetry Festival on Saturday, September 14, 2013, noon to 4:00 p.m., at the Florence Gould Theater at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor Museum in Lincoln Park, 100 34th Ave near Clement. Artists Embassy International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting intercultural understanding and peace through the universal language of the arts, founded in 1951.

During the Dance Poetry Festival, Nina will be performing her poem “To Die Of Joy In The River” from her forthcoming book Heart Strong, Selected Poems 2000-2012  with the Dance Generators, a multi-generational Dance Company from the University San Francisco. “To Die of Joy in the River”, about the water cycle, was part of the  Dance Generator’s “The Signature of Water” spring concert performance. The poem was inspired by the 12th Century poet Rumi, and embraces his love of ecstatic experience.  Here is a  short video of the poem/dance performance from the April, 2013 performance
