Squeezed into the Performance Studio at KPFA-FM radio station, on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2015, the women of KPFA presented a giant celebration honoring three KPFA women elders, Avotcja, Nina Serrano, and Jennifer Stone. Nina Serrano published a blog post, which also includes the video, about the event telling the story of a day of celebrations that included, not only the event, but also 25 hours of continuous all women programming broadcast for International Women’s Day 2015.

The video was shot with a small camera, the Fuji XM-1 with a shotgun mic attached to it. Using a unipod in front of my seat at the back of the crowded room, I recorded the event. The same camera also took the still photos that are edited into the video. Sitting next to Nina’s great grandson, Camilito, and his dad, Camilo, added sweet baby sounds to the recording that seemed very compatible with a celebration of International Women’s Day, 2015.

The MC of the event, Joy Moore, announced that there are only two kinds of people on this planet: Women and their children. She also declared it the Millennium of  Women, saying we needed more than a day or a month. We need a millennium. It was a great event which I am glad to have witnessed and recorded.

Estuary Press offers the video in this blog post to share the wonderful celebration for these iconic and beloved elders.
