Film to HD Digital Files

At a time of intensifying rebellion against racism, injustice, war and ecological suicide, the demands for historic images of radical 1960s protests contained in the Harvey Richards Media Archive high definition digital files collection continues to grow. In response to expanding demand from film makers, publishers, museums and others around the country, the HRMA has undertaken new conversions of 16 mm film to high definition digital files. In 2019, 21 of Harvey Richards‘ 22 films were converted from 16 mm film to high definition. The response to this new high quality historical video has been very positive prompting a fresh review of all the film elements in the archive.

After sorting through and examining everything, a new batch of films are headed to the lab for conversion to from film to HD digital files.  These new conversions will include

  • Vanishing Redwoods
  • Color footage of California Farm Worker strikes
  • Color footage of 1969 and 1971 Vietnam War Protests
  • South Outs
  • 1965 California Flood
  • 1970s Logging footage
