Students in McComb, Mississippi, with the help of Teaching for Change, put together a wonderful conference on civil rights activists and movement history. Through Teaching for Change, the McComb students found the historic photos of Amzie Moore and other civil rights activists taken by Harvey Richards in 1963 and 1964.  Some students contacted the Archive to get (and receive) permission to use them in their projects.

The photo above and the following words taken from the McComb Legacy web site: “The tour stopped for lunch at the Cotton Gin Restaurant where they met the owner Johnnie Powell. Powell told the students how she secured the historical marker for voting rights activist Herbert Lee. Lee was murdered at the Cotton Gin by state lawmaker E.H. Hurst in 1961. Learn more here.”
