In 1962, when I was 18 years old, my father, Harvey Richards, went to Sacramento and set up a slide show in the hallway outside the Assembly where they were debating a bill to require California farmers to provide toilets for their workers. The slide show consisted of photos like this one showing workers urinating and defecating in the fields while picking the crops. The bill passed.
