Wasted Woods: “Cut and Get Out. After Us, the Deluge and the Desert.”

Wasted Woods video shows corporate destruction of the forest on the West Coast during the 1950’s and 60’s. In a period of booming log towns, the west coast witnessed the final gasp of the giant mills that denuded much of the western forests and virtually all of the old growth timber still standing at that time. In their quest for profits, big corporations invested in immense machinery and equipment to handle the giant logs, move them to the mill, process them into lumber and then to market.

Wasted Woods Video is About Clear Cutting

Back on the hillsides, the clear cutting destruction of the forest left vast areas devastated and denuded of the living canopy and rich forest soils that had nourished the region for centuries. Focusing on clear cutting, the film reveals the rapid deterioration of the forest ecology and the disappearance of towns and businesses that once relied on these destructive forestry practices.  Some of the same footage is also used in The Stump Makers.
