Twelve Poems from Twelve Poets
Literary Dialogs with Nina Serrano Celebrates Jack Hirschman
It was about 2 weeks before what would have been Jack Hirschman’s 88th birthday (1935-2021) , when we assembled 12 fine poets in a zoom session to celebrate Jack Hirschman.
The Poets
Poets include Virginia Barrett, John Curl, Dorothy Payne, Jack Foley, Kristine Brown, Paul Lobo Portugues, Karen Melander Magoon, Doreen Stock, Mark Lipman, D.L. Lang, Adrian Arias and Nina Serrano.
Zoom provided a safe way for us to be togetherto celebrate Jack Hirschman during this pandemic. Most poets were present in the San Francisco Bay Area, except Karen Melander Magoon who joined us from her Portland visit and Mark Lipman who sent us a video presentation of his poem added in during the edit. It was exciting to host such a large group of excellent poets, most of them belonging to the Revolutionary Posts Brigade founded by Hirschman. I decided to keep the format sparse: Minimal introductions and no post-poem commentaries.
I am very pleased with results which will also be presented as radio broadcasts on KPFA-fm (94.1 fm in Berkeley most of northern California) on February 1st and 8th at 2:30 PM on Cover to Cover. It will also broadcast on OZCAT radio (89.5 fm in Vallejo, California) on February 10 at 10:30 am on Art Beat.
We move on to continue to carry forward Jack Hirschman’s goal to create a new world of peace, equality, and justice. I hope you find these inspiring poems as uplifting as we did.
