My San Francisco Litquake book party on Oct 18, 2013 was a hit with music, poetry, book signing and friendship. The short program included 43 years of words in 12 minutes! I read poems from my all three books of the Heart Suite trilogy: Heart Songs 1969-1980, Heart’s Journey 1980-1999, Heart Strong 2000-2012 . It is deeply satisfying to have completed the publication of the trilogy. I feel that Heart Strong, Selected Poems, 2000-2012 includes my most developed work. I am glad I included my own art work in both Heart Strong and Heart’s Journey and thrilled with their covers. I am ready to move ahead to new books, like my novel, NICARAGUA WAY (forthcoming September, 2014 from Estuary Press).

I was surprised that I could still shock an audience, though it was not my intention.  I thought we are in another liberated era – but NO. There was a discernible giggle and even a gasp when I read Red Flower of the Last Blood from Heart’s Journey, Selected Poems 1980-1999.

Alameda Poet Laureate and treasured friend, Mary Rudge introduced me. My granddaughter Mali McGee read excepts from Andrena Zawinski, Jack Foley and Lenore Weiss’ comments on the books. My publisher-husband Paul Richards spoke describing the process we went through to publish the eBook and paperback. It moved me to hear that he valued my poetic work and how intertwined my poetry is in our evolving relationship of 37 years.
