Innovative Austrian documentary filmmaker Tina Leisch’s new movie about Roque Dalton, the national poet of El Salvador, called “Let’s Shoot the Night!” will be shown at the Latino Film Festival, Cine Mas, at the Mission Cultural Center in San Francisco on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 7 PM. Tina Leisch discovered the poetry of Roque Dalton in El Salvador during the civil war in the 1980s while she was participating in the European solidarity movement with Central America.

Following Roque Dalton

In 2011, she traveled with a camera person to El Salvador, Mexico, Cuba, Nicaragua and the Czech Republic to film interviews with Dalton’s friends and family in these major sites of the revolutionary poet’s relatively short life (1935-1975). I traveled to Cuba in 2011 where I participated in the filming. A short interview with me is included in the film.

Tina Leisch’s work is a powerful, beautiful, inspiring, gripping movie destined to win awards and acclaim from audiences worldwide. Fusilemos La Noche / Let’s Shoot the Night has appeared in 31 international film festivals to date. I will be part a question and answer session after the showing with S. F. Poet Laureate Alejandro Murgia. Please join us. Gracias.

Nina Serrano’s poetry books, Heart Songs, Heart’s Journey, and Heart Strong, are available for purchase.
